About the position:
This position serves two roles: job coach and teaching assistant. This paraeducator position provides educational services under the direction of the work experience teacher and the academic team. The Job Coach is responsible for providing instruction in employable skills and behaviors in employment settings in addition to supporting the safety and welfare of all CDHY/WSD students. In addition, the job coach/teaching assistant will serve as a teaching assistant in the classroom as needed, carrying out lesson plans and activities provided by the Teacher of the Deaf, assisting with classroom management, assisting with special health care needs of students, and supervising students in a variety of settings on and off campus.
Duties:
Supervise students on WSD campus and at off campus work site locations.
Transport and accompany students to assigned work site.
Monitor and teach work related skills and behaviors such as appropriate communication, on-task behavior, grooming, and appropriate social interactions.
Identify employer or consumer concerns and try to resolve potential concerns/issues in a collaborative manner.
Act as a liaison between students and employers to help facilitate communication and develop communication strategies.
Teach students how to navigate public transportation.
Meet regularly with work experience teacher and transition needs team to give feedback on student’s performance at work site. Provide written reports and assessments of student progress.
Participate in required meetings and student conferences and other duties as assigned by Principal.
Qualifications:
Ability to communicate in ASL and written English.
At least one year of experience working with students in an educational setting.
AA degree or completion of paraeducator training program approved by OSPI is preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to transport students in a state vehicle.
Ability to work as a team member and maintain positive relations with staff, students, parents, and the public.
Willingness to follow instructions and use problem-solving skills to work as a member of the educational team.
Working knowledge of behavior management and classroom management techniques.
Awareness of how technology impacts the learning process and ability to use computers and email.
Willing and able to train a variety of skills in varied environments with different physical demands.
Ability to maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

This is a school year-based position and is not scheduled to work during annual school closures, which includes winter, spring and summer break. This position does not receive spread pay and there is no guarantee of additional work opportunities during school closures.
Salary information:
$3,393.00 – $4,517.00 Monthly
This position is paid in accordance with the Washington General Government pay scale (Range 39) with eligibility for dual language 5%.
